Arthur Mark Canon 77, of West Point, Texas passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, August 11, 2025. His nephew John J. Barkdull Canon and care giver Alice Tryon were by his side. 

Mark was born on May 9, 1948 in Houston, Texas. He was raised in Angleton, TX and graduated from Angleton High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and received an honorable discharge. Once out of the service, Mark helped his mom battle Alzheimer for twelve years. During this time of caring for his mom, Mark was smitten. Mark married Julianne V. Larson and together they built commerce, a home and many friendships. Their love was firmly shored but not long lived. Julianne passed away in a car accident, only 8 short years after marriage. 

Mark was known for loving the Texas Rangers, a one-of-a-kind personality who was well read and knowledgeable. He had a passion for theology and understanding God’s Word. Mark had a tender heart and gave to his community and those in need. Mark loved his dogs especially “Blue” and enjoyed training them.

Mark enjoyed his time socializing with his friends at Bastrop First, Round Top State Bank La Grange, Sealand Seafood and Steak,.  He enjoyed spending time with Jerry Wall, his best friend and baseball viewing partner and with Tim Larson, his business partner and friend.  

Mark is survived by his brothers Wayne Kenneth Canon and John Anthony Canon and his nephew and nieces John J. Barkdull Canon, Pamela Paige Flowers, Jennifer Nicole Hogan and Hillary Grace Hobbs. He was preceded in death by his wife Julianne V. Larson, dad Arthur Otway, mom Jeanette Canon and sister Wallet Rosenthal. 

The family of Mark will hold a small, private graveside service. Friends are invited to join the family at the home of Mark on August 18th from 12pm to 2pm for an open house and time of remembrance. Please come and go as you are able. Light refreshments will be served.

The family wishes to thank Brazos Valley Hospice (Ms. Amanda) for their support and care during this time. We are deeply grateful to Ms. Alice, whose devotion and tireless care brought comfort and dignity to Mark in his final days. Thank you to all of the family, friends and loved ones who came out to visit Mark during this time. Thank you to Pastor Woods and his dear friends at Bastrop First Assembly of God for their love and support during his time of need.
