Flatonia

David Alan Fike passed away Wednesday, November, 12, 2025 at St. David's Hospital in Austin, Texas after a 5 year heart battle. David was born on September 17, 1949, to James Covellar (J.C.) Fike, Jr. and Bessie (Maresh) Fike in Houston, Texas. David attended Milby High School, and in 1966, at the age of 16, his family moved to their farm in Moulton following his father’s passing. During his Junior year of high school, he met the love of his life, Lucreta Fisbeck. He graduated from Moulton High School in 1968 and started college in Victoria. On July 10, 1970, David and Lucreta were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moulton.

In the fall of 1970, David joined the United States Air Force, and served his country for four years. During his tour of duty, David and Lucreta welcomed two children, Alan James (A.J.) and DeeAnn.

In 1974, David moved his family back home to Texas. He returned to college, studying biochemistry at the University of Houston, and eventually enrolled in Pharmacy School. In 1978, David graduated as a pharmacist, beginning the profession he was made for and loved with all his heart.

David and Lucreta purchased Freytag Drug Store in downtown Flatonia in 1980 and renamed it Main Street Pharmacy—a true cornerstone of the town. David cared deeply for his customers, always going above and beyond. After 35 years serving the community, they sold the pharmacy. David then worked for H-E-B Pharmacy and filled in at nearly every pharmacy across four counties. After retirement, David and Lucreta enjoyed living and working on their ranch in Muldoon. He was constantly mowing, shredding, and tending to his Black Brangus herd.

Above all, David knew his greatest blessing was his family. David and Lucreta had the best life together, 55 amazing years. Their favorite things were traveling the world, dancing, and spending time with friends near and far. David was endlessly proud—and often boastful—of his kids and grandkids and every summer, he took his family on wonderful vacations.

David was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia. He served as a lector, a KC, a 4th-degree Knight and was involved in ACTS. He was a founding member of the Flatonia Lions Club, served 10 years on the Flatonia School Board, and played active roles executing many Czhilispiels. He was also a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Vietnam Veterans of America and American Legion Post 94.

David was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Allen Fike of Houston; his sister, Susan Steinhauser of Flatonia; his grandson, Jackson Allan Hooper of Schulenburg; his nephew (Godson), Karl Steinhauser of Flatonia; his brother-in-law, Darcy Fisbeck of Houston; and his sister-in-law, Rochelle Fisbeck of Houston.

David is survived by his wife, Lucreta Fike of Flatonia; son, A.J. Fike and wife, Staci of Flatonia; daughter, DeeAnn Hooper and husband, Chris of Schulenburg. 6 grandchildren, Chandler Fales and husband Hunter of Cuero, Jaycee Fike of Seguin, William Hooper of San Marcos, Ellie Fike and Braidy Fike of Flatonia and Cate Hooper of Schulenburg. 3 brothers-in-law, Randy (R.J.)
