July 23, 1949 — March 18, 2025

Flatonia

David James Florus, affectionately known as "Loco," passed away on March 18, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on July 23, 1949, in Shiner, Texas, he spent his life committing himself to family, work, and a variety of passions that brought joy and laughter to those around him.

David's career as a construction superintendent began in high school, where he had the invaluable opportunity to work alongside his father at Jarbet Construction Company, and later with his uncle and cousins at Farek Paving Company. He dedicated much of his professional life to Dean Word Construction Company and eventually worked with Knife River Construction, retiring from Angel Brothers Construction in 2019. His dedication to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family.

A family man, David spent his later years attending various events to cheer on his grandchildren, providing support, encouragement, and love. He was a proud father to his daughters Rachelle Demny (Matt), Staci Fike (AJ), Brianna Janecka (Hank), and son Andrew (Wendy). He cherished his role as Popo to granddaughters Chandler Fike Fales (Hunter), Jaycee Fike, Ellie Fike, Braidy Fike, Palmer Janecka, Callum Janecka, Lillian Blake Florus, and grandsons Christopher Demny (Bailey), Stephen Demny, Luke Demny, Jared Demny, John Demny, Brandt Kahanek, as well as step-grandchildren Andie, Lainey, and Easton Melnar. David also embraced his role as a great-grandfather to Nathan Demny.

David had a passionate personality. He was described as the life of the party and a gentle giant. He had an appreciation for history, loved music and sports, and was known for being a responsible individual who could light up any room with his great dancing skills.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian D. Brauner Florus, who stood by him through thick and thin, and all of the family members who deeply mourn his loss. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Leroy Florus, and his mother, Julie Emma Kubicek Florus.

David fought a good fight till the end, holding on as best he could for his loved ones. However, in the end, his heart could not withstand the pain any longer and he left this world on he and Lillian's 53rd wedding anniversary, March 18th. He is remembered with great affection and respect, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.
