David Turner, at age 70, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Born on October 7, 1953, to Rexford Turner and Eva Whiteside Turner. David was a lifelong resident of Flatonia, Texas and spent his last years in San Antonio with his wife, Mary Alice Velasquez. Married on April 27,1979. David and Mary were loving partners who raised two daughters, Helena and Hillary.
David leaves behind a family and a community that honors his tenacious spirit for living. Whether spending his time offering a kind smile and friendly welcome to those visiting The Enclave nursing home or opening his home to the beloved Bandit, a Hurricane Katrina rescue pup, and Max the sassy cat, he knew the value in sharing one’s blessings with others. David embodied a sincere and easy nature that took delight in everyday joys; he was a devoted participant at bingo and dominoes with his community friends and loved Sunday afternoons spent with football games, a Whataburger meal, and visits from family. With an artist’s heart and stubborn dedication, David took pride in crafting the world into a more cheerful place around him, from creating artwork to growing his garden. Despite the challenges of life, David never failed to remember those he loved most, always reminding family and friends with daily minute-long phone calls that someone was thinking of them.
David is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son Gregory Bryan Turner. He is survived by his two daughters: Helena Turner of Abilene, TX and Hillary Turner of San Antonio, TX. A memorial service for David was held on December 26, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia, TX. A reception with lunch followed at the parish hall.
