Donald (Donnie) Mica, 81, of Flatonia, passed away on February 20, 2023. He was born on May 30, 1941 to George Mica and Gertrude Steinhauser Mica.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Rietz Mica, his parents George Mica and Gertrude Steinhauser Mica, and his brother James Mica.
Donald is survived by his three children Chris Mica and wife Melanie; Todd Mica and wife Marcia; Donna Kozelsky and husband Tim; his brother Douglas Mica and wife Sandra, all of Flatonia; his sister-in-law Helen Mica, of East Bernard; nine grandchildren Katrina Siefken (Curt), Cailin Mica, Colby Mica (Paige), Kylie Mica, Bryce Mica (Hannah), Braydon Mica (Hannah), Nathan Kozelsky, Matthew Kozelsky and AnaLyn Kozelsky; and two great grandchildren, Blakely Mica and Hadley Mica.
Donnie married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary Ann, on August 19, 1961. They resided in Houston until he decided to come back and work in the family business along side his father. Flatonia became their forever home where they raised their three children.
Our Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and friend will be remembered as being a very hard worker. He was self-employed for over 50 years. He started a fertilizer business, owned a feed store, Flatonia Farm and Ranch, where he sold Purina feed, had a trucking business, Mica Brothers Grain and ran a cattle operation. He worked 7 days a week and loved every minute of it.
Besides working, he enjoyed being with family, watching his grandkids play in their sporting events, drinking morning coffee with friends, hunting at the bird lease and deer lease with family and friends. He loved taking his dogs out to hunt for quail. Donnie spent many Wednesday evenings with close friends bowling on the Friendly Tavern bowling team.
He served his community in various capacities. He was a member of the FISD School Board, Volunteer Fire Department and Jaycee’s. He was involved in implementing the first Czhilispiel beer stand. Donnie was a proud supporter of the Flatonia Wildcat baseball team and spent many Sundays at the ball park.
He will be missed by many!
