Jeanette Marie Kurtz, born on June 3, 1947, in Moulton, Texas, passed away in her home on March 5, 2026, in Flatonia, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones. She left behind a legacy of kindness, sincerity, and unwavering faith that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Jeanette graduated from Flatonia High School in 1966 and went on to carve out a fulfilling career. She owned and operated her own fabric store before she started working as a secretary at Prototype Machine Company. Joining her husband, Calvin, they ran Kwik Stop, a convenience store in Flatonia, for over 20 years. She continued her devotion to customer service by working at Dollar General in Flatonia and its surrounding areas until her retirement.
Having married her high school sweetheart, Calvin Kurtz, on June 15, 1968, in Praha, Texas, Jeanette cultivated a partnership marked by love and support. Together, they navigated life’s journey, raising a family and contributing to their community.
Jeanette was not only dedicated to her work and family but also had a vibrant personality that reflected her caring nature. She was known to be both sweet and straightforward, speaking honestly yet always with kindness. Her friends and family appreciated her sincerity and her ability to provide thoughtful opinions without judgment. A devoted member of her church, her faith played a significant role in her life, as she frequently praised the Lord and found joy in her spiritual community.
An avid seamstress, Jeanette showcased her talent by creating numerous cheerleading and dance outfits, quilts for both herself and her family, and alterations to countless bridesmaids' dresses. With a love of games, Jeanette often challenged family and friends in dominoes and Phase 10, offering friendly competition and spirited fun. She loved to travel to new places, especially with her sister, daughter, granddaughters, and niece Jenna. All of these activities of course included her enjoying a nice glass (or two) of wine.
In addition to her dedication to her family and friends, Jeanette took pride in her community involvement. She volunteered weekly at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, helping to fold bulletins, and was an active member of the Altar Society, reflecting her commitment to her faith and the church community. Following in her mother's footsteps, she continued working in the kitchen each year on August 15th at the Praha picnic as the green bean queen.
