John Lee Buchanan

John Lee Buchanan, a cherished soul born on December 9, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, in Flatonia, Texas. His life, spanning 99 years, was marked by a profound love for good food and the enchanting melodies he created on his flute, clarinet or saxophone... passions that brought joy both to himself and those fortunate enough to hear him play. He was a professional musician spending many years in the San Antonio Orchestra. John's great love of trains led him to travel the world taking many pictures of engines no longer seen today.

John was born to John L. Buchanan and Cecil Aline Bixler Buchanan, who laid the foundation for a life filled with warmth and generosity. He was also the beloved grandson of Elbredge Lee Buchanan and Cornelia Elizabeth Townsend Buchanan. The bond of family was a defining thread in his life, though he faced the sorrowful loss of his sister, Virginia Elizabeth Buchanan Tinker.

Throughout his many years, John formed enduring relationships that enriched his journey. He is lovingly remembered by his niece, Virginia Tinker Brace, his nephews, David Lee Tinker and Curtis Frederick Tinker III, who carry forward his legacy within their hearts. His circle of caring friends, including Gerald Freytag, Mary Gosch, Greg Kadlub, Debbie Walker, Laura Zouzalik, and Tom Autrey stood by him with steadfast companionship and affection.

John’s final wishes included a cremation, a quiet tribute reflective of his humility and grace.

His passing leaves a void but also a wellspring of treasured memories, a lasting echo of the virtuous life he led and the gentle spirit he embodied.
