Juan V. Hernandez

Juan Velasquez Hernández, passed away on July 25, 2024 in San Antonio. He was born on May 16, 1963 in a small rural community in Guanajuato, Mexico to Sofia Velasquez and J. Dolores Hernandez. 

Juan is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alicia Hernandez; son Fernando Hernandez of Austin; daughters, Maria Hernandez of Moulton, Ilda Hernandez (Uriel) of San Antonio and son Juan Antonio Hernandez (Vanessa) of San Antonio; and his 2 grandchildren Camila Hernandez and Mateo Hernandez. 

Juan was born and raised in a small community in Guanajuato, Mexico. At the age of 16 he moved to Mexico City with his eldest brother to work and help support his widowed mother, youngest brother and niece. There he met his wife Alicia and married on October 29, 1983. They immigrated to the United States and settled in Flatonia with his sister Gabriela and her family. During this time he worked for Mid-Tex Minerals and enjoyed watching his children, nieces and nephews grow together. They lived in Flatonia until they moved to Moulton where they purchased their 1st home in 2002. He enjoyed growing crops with his mother, raising animals and watching his son play basketball. 

In 2011 he was diagnosed with kidney failure and started dialysis. His daughter Maria, not wanting to see him suffer, donated her kidney to him in 2013. He was no longer able to work but kept a positive attitude about life. His pastime consisted of watching soccer with his wife and kids or playing with his granddaughter who always brought joy to his face. He enjoyed listening to music, talking with family and friends and visiting his numerous godchildren. Juan was loved by many and will be missed tremendously. 

Juan is preceded in death by his parents, 3 siblings; Inez, Miguel and Maria, a niece, Adela, and 3 nephews, Manuel, Raymundo and Ricardo.
