Marcella Otahal Teague was called home by our dear Lord on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the age of 79. She was born at home on the farm in Cistern, Texas, December 10, 1942, to Frank and Libby Otahal. She grew up picking cotton, pulling corn, picking eggs, and feeding pigs, among other farm chores.
Marcie attended Cistern Catholic and Cistern Public Schools, and graduated from Flatonia High School. She worked in Austin with the Highway Department until she met the love of her life, Billy Teague, who had just enlisted in the Navy. After a whirlwind romance of three weeks, the Navy ordered Billy to report to del Coronado Base in San Diego, California. Not about to leave Marcie behind, they married on March 12, 1963. California was like another country to her, but she managed through a difficult pregnancy, and their son, Dale, was born.
After the Navy, they came back to Austin for a couple of years where she worked for the City of Austin as a key punch operator. Later they moved to the Ft. Worth area where Billy got into home building and Marcie landed a job at Harbison Fisher. She worked there for over 30 years, retiring as a Data Processing Supervisor.
Their next move was to their retirement home in Cistern in 2010. Here they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a party and by renewing their marriage vows at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.
Marcie had a radiating, friendly, and joyful nature, creating a cheerful atmosphere among co-workers, and throughout the organizations in which she was involved. She was Vice President of the American Legion Auxiliary, an active member of the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center, Fayette County Czech Heritage Society, KJZT, and the Cistern Cilly Cisters Red Hat group. It gave her a thrill to yell out “Bingo” Thursday nights, and to wear multiple Bunco hats at the same time.
Marcie had a heart of gold and helped everyone in any way she could with a kind and gentle nature. She will be missed by all.
Marcie is survived by her husband, Billy Teague, daughter-in-law Amy Teague, grandsons Justin Dale and Cooper Teague, granddaughter Katherine Teague, Sister-in-Law Virginia Otahal, nephew Jerry Otahal (Sherry), niece Adrienne Clark (Mark), great nephews Jeremy Otahal and Nathan Hoffman; seven great-great nieces and nephews, and lots of cousins that cared for her deeply.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry Otahal, and her son, Dale Teague.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center, P.O. Box 6, La Grange, Tx. 78945, or the charity of choice.
Visitation for Marcie will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia, Tx with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Cistern, Tx, officiated by Father Eddie Winkler and burial will follow in the St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Cistern, Tx.
