Mary Louise Scates, 94, passed away on August 7, 2023.  She was born on February 26, 1929, to Daniel W. and Henrietta Boehme Hitt, whose family could be traced to 1714 in Virginia.

Mary lived an active and very interesting 94 years.  She was born in Tulsa and always considered Oklahoma to be her home state.

Survived by her husband of 59 years, Eddie Scates, of La Grange, Texas, two loving sons; Robert Moentnish and wife Minnie of La Grange, Texas and David of Cedar Hill, Texas, Half brother Jerry Hitt of Graham, Texas and Sister-in-Law Ramona Menefee of Oklahoma City and extended family in Springfield, MO.

Since the late 1960’s Mary and Eddie traveled extensively in their 5th wheel Holiday Rambler, collecting fascinating stories and many interesting friends along the way.

She was carefully cared for by her son Robert and the attentive staff at Parkview Nursing Home in Weimar, Texas.

Her wisdom, laughter and clever ways will be missed.  She was loved by all who knew her.

She will be buried at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org
