Eddie M. Hulsey, affectionately known as Mr. Ed, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas, on May 5, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on November 14, 1927, in Houston, Texas, Ed led a life dedicated to public service and community engagement for nearly a century.
Throughout his life, Ed dedicated himself to public service, working as a Constable for many years in Harris County. He also served the community of Flatonia, Texas, in distinguished roles as a City Councilman, Chief of Police, and former Mayor. His contributions to the city, alongside his work as a funeral assistant at Smith Funeral Home for over 20 years, reflected his unwavering dedication to helping others.
Ed proudly served in the United States Navy, a testament to his commitment to his country. He was known for his friendly demeanor and an infectious smile that brought joy to those around him. His genuine warmth and uplifting spirit fostered lasting connections with friends and family alike. Especially his dear friends Miguel and Jamie Guerrero who continuously supported him and Billie.
He cherished his beloved wife, Billie, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage, loving her more every day. Ed’s remaining family include his daughter Brenda Kay Tippetts, sister Carol Fisher, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Ed is predeceased in death by his son Joseph Manning and daughters Pam Robertson and Marian Cromeans. He also mourned the loss of his brothers Raymond Clenna Hulsey, Milton Howell Hulsey, and Richard Lynn Hulsey, as well as his sisters Reva Elvira Hulsey and Viney Ruth Hulsey.
As family and friends gather to celebrate his remarkable life, visitation services will take place at Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia, Texas, on May 16, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, officiated by Pastor Tim Rowell of Flatonia Baptist Church. Ed’s legacy of kindness, leadership, and love will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
