Richard Steve Cernosek, 84, peacefully entered eternity Thursday, November 6, 2025, at his home in Flatonia. Born in La Grange, Texas on July 4, 1941, to Steve and Mary Cernosek, he was the oldest of three children. Richard graduated from Weimar High School in 1959 and from Wharton County Junior College in 1961. He began his career in accounting at Herder Truck Lines in Weimar. After serving in the Army, he returned to Herder Truck Lines where he met his perfect match, Alice June Wehmeyer.
Richard and Alice were married May 10, 1969, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia. After residing in Weimar for four years, they moved to Flatonia in 1973 and welcomed a baby girl, June Marie, in 1981. Richard brought the same devotion to fatherhood that he showed as a husband, constantly supporting his daughter in her studies, school activities, and personal interests.
Following the sale of Herder Truck Lines in 1996, Richard continued his accounting career at Carlton Industries in La Grange. He took pride in his contributions to Carlton and valued the camaraderie and support he shared with his coworkers and bosses. Richard retired in 2014 after 18 very fulfilling years with the company.
Richard was known as a kind and humble man who loved his wife and family dearly. He possessed a sharp mind but was never one to boast about his talents. As a child, he developed an active interest in collecting coins and stamps, a hobby that would last his entire life. He was an avid reader, a talented singer who absolutely loved rock-n-roll and country music, and a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Over the years, Richard enjoyed many vacations across the United States and Canada with Alice and their family. Road trips were an annual event, and he especially loved the mountains, national parks, and seeing the leaves change in the fall. In later years, San Antonio and the Fredericksburg area became favorite destinations. Family trips to the Texas Hill Country included time spent with his daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters.
Despite challenging health issues in recent years, Richard faithfully attended Mass several times a week and was deeply devoted to prayer, especially the holy rosary. Guided by a steadfast faith, he firmly believed in God’s promise of eternal life and salvation.
Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice June Cernosek. He leaves behind one daughter June Marie (Lawrence) Nelson, granddaughters Kara and Rosalie Nelson, and his sister Diana Wick. He is preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Mary Cernosek, and his brother Edwin Cernosek.
