Richard Charles Nieto, a proud, devoted, and loving father and Pop, peacefully transitioned from this world on August 21st at the age of 58. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a profound impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ricky was born on June 16, 1965, to Daniel Simon Nieto and Sylvia Ann Chapa in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up in San Antonio and spent his teen years in Austin. He graduated from Crockett High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Texas State University - San Marcos.
Rick had a lifelong affinity for fishing that brought him immeasurable joy. Whether casting a line in serene waters or sharing fishing tales with fellow enthusiasts, he found peace and happiness in this lifelong pursuit.
Family was at the core of Rick's being. He was a dedicated son, father, and grandfather whose love for his parents, children, and grandchild knew no bounds. His unwavering support, guidance, and laughter created a strong bond that will endure through generations.
Beyond his role as a father, Rick was known for his love of Texas State University, the Dallas Cowboys, the Houston Rockets, and all things history. Cars held a special place in his heart, especially his GTO and Trans Am. Rick was currently employed as a funeral assistant with Smith Funeral Home, with USPS as a route driver and was a substitute teacher for surrounding schools.
Rick is survived by his father, Dr. Daniel S. Nieto; mother, Sylvia Chapa Koch; oldest daughter, Lauren Nieto (Chris Flores); second oldest daughter, Rachel Nieto (Christian Castillo); son, Maverick Nieto; grandson, Ian Castillo; sister, Anita Keese (Andrew, Leo, and Freya); brother, Walter Koch; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
His warm smile, quick wit, and kind heart left an indelible mark on our lives. And though Rick may no longer be present in person, his spirit will endure within the treasured memories held dear by all. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
“If there ever comes a day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart. I'll stay there forever.”
