Teresa Lee Whaley

Teresa Lee Whaley, born on August 30, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, in Flatonia, Texas. She was a cherished sister, a devoted mother, and a beloved grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Teresa was a proud graduate of Flatonia High School, class of 1967.  Throughout her life, Teresa dedicated herself not only to her family but also to her career, in addition to being a housewife and mother she had multiple careers Including Phillips 66 and working for Texas A&M where she was known for her hard work and commitment. Outside of her professional life, she embraced the joys of nature through her passions for hunting, fishing, traveling, and gardening. These pursuits brought her unparalleled happiness and allowed her to connect deeply with the world around her.

Teresa is survived by her cherished friend Jerry "Nicky" Buse, her loving siblings, Pamela Whaley, Donna Whaley, and Vada Byford. She will be profoundly missed by her son, Wallace Cherry (Christina), and her three grandchildren; Adeline, Will and Sofia, who brought her immense joy and pride. Teresa was also preceded in death by her brother Don Whaley, stepbrothers, Roy Richter and Bobby Richter, mother Melba Hood, father Donald Walter Whaley and stepfather Leroy Richter who have surely welcomed her into eternal peace.

The community is invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled for June 26, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia, Texas. A funeral service will be on June 27, 2025, at 12:00 PM, also at Smith Funeral Home and interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Flatonia, Texas. 

Teresa Lee Whaley's spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was a remarkable woman who lived life to the fullest, fostering connections that will endure across generations. Her legacy of kindness, adventure, and family devotion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.
