Kathleen Collins

September 25, 1970 — April 5, 2023

Kathleen Geesaman Collins had a great life from birth, September 25, 1970, until passing from this life, April 5, 2023.  She totally trusted in God’s plan and was not afraid to leave this life if that was His will.

She had a great life growing up with parents in the US Air Force, living in Florida, Virginia, Japan and Germany.  She enlisted in the Air Force herself as an airman, and after that duty, obtained an ROTC scholarship to Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State).  Her dad swore her in as a second lieutenant upon graduation, and she completed her service as a Captain in the Texas National Guard in 2007.

With her degree in Mass Communication and Broadcasting she worked in IT sales and marketing for expanding small startup companies in Austin, and did business in Japan, Germany, Taiwan, China and throughout the US.  She also did two terms as a Flatonia councilman and included in her projects: obtaining the downtown train quiet zone, moving city utilities and maintenance from downtown to new facilities on the west side of town, and preserving the old “tin man” water tower.  She was also part of the team trying to secure an Amtrak stop in Flatonia and was still working to that end with Flatonia Mobility, LLC.

She was married to Steve Collins for 17 years, and was also active in the Fayette County Republican Party as a local precinct chair and frequent election judge.  She loved reading, loved art museums, loved decorating (took charge of renovating the Olle Hotel), loved her parents ranch, loved Steve, loved clothes and nice things, and loved her family, and was totally loyal to them.

Kathleen is survived by her parents, Dennis and Kathryn Geesaman of Flatonia, her sister Angelique Barritt and her husband Elvis of Port Towsend, WA, and her two nephew AF fighter pilots Zach and Jon Tarbox.

Any contributions in her memory can be made to the Flatonia Methodist Church to light up the flag and the steeple.

A Celebration of Life for Kathleen will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Flatonia Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jeff Muehl officiating.
