Louis Rocha

October 11, 1934 — May 26, 2023

Flatonia

We are saddened to announce the passing of our daddy, Louis T. Rocha on May 26, 2023, at the age of 88 years. Louis Trejo Rocha was born on October 11, 1934, in Bastrop County, to Roman and Julia Trejo Rocha.

On August 25, 1957, he married the woman he loved so deeply, Ramona Lopez. She was four years older and thought she was too old for him, so she turned down his prior proposals, but he refused to give up and later convinced her to elope with him. They shared 41 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 1998. He is also preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Pauline Rocha, two great-grandchildren, his parents, Roman and Julia Trejo Rocha, his sisters, Eva Salas, and Isabel Degollado, and most recently his brother, Felipe Rocha. He was close to his parents and siblings. Due to his close bond with his brother, he was honored to name his middle son after him and because of his devotion to his mother, he named one of his daughters after her.

Louis was a family man; he worked tirelessly to provide for his wife and children. Around 1969, he moved his family from the Smithville area to Muldoon, TX so that he could operate the National Charcoal Company, over the past 25 years. He was well-known and respected; he received so many requests to clear land because he needed wood to make charcoal. People from Houston and San Antonio would detour from Flatonia/Interstate 10 to drive to Muldoon to buy cords of mesquite wood. It's the best for a barbecue. He would donate bags of charcoal to his children’s fundraiser events such as the Flatonia Czhilispiel. In the summertime, he would help his son’s high school friends by paying them to work hauling hay. He would also offer summer jobs to his nephews, which they gladly accepted. He was such a thoughtful and caring man.

He and his late wife loved to dance to Spanish and Polka music. You could find them out on the town just about every Saturday night, with their younger children in tow. Family time consisted of fishing, hunting, offering his great-grandchildren ice cream, watching television, celebrating birthdays, and other special occasions.

He is survived by his cat Delilah, his children: Silverio Rocha (Nancy) of Gonzales, Linda Cardenas (Adam) of Austin, MaryAnn Luna (Johnny) of Wyoming, Phillip Rocha (Maria) of La Grange, Teena Givens (Jim) of Leander, Martha Rocha of Austin, Julia Estrada (Steve) of Flatonia, Robert Rocha of Bastrop, Bebe Rocha of Austin; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, sister-in-law Virginia Campos (David) of Austin, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers are Jeremy Rocha, Jordan Estrada, Raygen Lau, Matthew Martinez, Kaleb Corona, and Ben Bailey. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Luna, Steve Estrada, and Harold Piatt.

We would like to take this time to thank Dr. Tony Aventa of Austin, Hospice of South Texas, and Flatonia Healthcare Center.

"Daddy, we love you very much.  Adios"
